Blow flies, larger than common house flies, can be recognized by their metallic colors, such as black, green, or copper. These noisy flies lay their eggs on decaying meat, with larvae developing into adults in 7 to 15 days. They are often found near garbage, pet waste, and spoiled food, making them a nuisance for homes and businesses.
The Oriental latrine fly, a blow fly species, has been a significant pest in Southern California since 1989. These flies gather near dumpsters and shady areas during the summer. Larvae near buildings can migrate indoors to pupate, creating a disturbance when they emerge as adult flies. Maintaining cleanliness and proper waste disposal are key in preventing blow fly infestations.
The little house fly (Fannia canicularis) is easily identified by its unusual flight pattern, moving in mid-air without frequently landing on food. This lowers the risk of food contamination compared to other house flies.
They lay their eggs in decaying organic matter, compost, or animal waste, particularly from pets like rabbits and poultry. The life cycle, from egg to adult, lasts around 24 days. Although they are annoying, their preference for decomposing matter makes them less of a threat indoors.
The false stable fly, known as Muscina stabulans, is slightly bulkier and darker in color than the house fly. Though it doesn’t bite like the true stable fly, it may still enter homes and lay eggs on mildly spoiled food.
The larvae are often found in decomposing plant material and animal waste. The false stable fly has a life span of about 14 days. While it doesn’t bite, its presence indoors can be an annoyance, especially when eggs are laid. Understanding its habits is essential for effective control.
The black garbage fly is a small, shiny insect about 1/5″ in size. These slender flies thrive in areas with garbage accumulation, especially in rural regions with irregular trash collection. While they aren’t often seen in large numbers in urban homes, poor waste management can lead to their presence.
Their life cycle lasts about ten days, allowing them to develop quickly. Effective garbage disposal is key to keeping them in check.
Stable flies may look like house flies, but they have a sharp, pointed beak for biting. They feed on livestock like horses and cattle but will also bite humans, particularly when they seek shelter indoors during wet weather.
More than just an annoyance, stable flies are pests to pets and livestock. They breed in areas with moist, decaying organic matter, manure, and urine-soaked straw. Regular cleanup and proper waste management can help minimize their presence.
Flesh flies (Sarcophaga species) are bigger than the typical house fly and feature a checkered abdomen. Their bodies are gray with black stripes along the thorax. Rather than laying eggs, flesh flies give birth to live maggots. The maggots are often found in spoiled meat, animal carcasses, and excrement like dog droppings. Flesh flies are typically found around dead animals and decaying snails.
The life cycle of flesh flies can take as little as eight days. These flies stay close to decaying organic material. If you spot large, slow-moving flies with checkered abdomens, you might have a flesh fly issue.
Tierrasanta Pest Control offers fly control services that start with a detailed inspection of your property. We focus on key areas like garbage disposal spots, drains, and standing water, where flies typically breed. We also identify common species such as blow flies, drain flies, and more.
In addition, we check plumbing systems for leaks or blockages that might attract flies. With specialized tools, we locate larvae and adult flies in concealed spaces, allowing us to provide targeted treatments tailored to your specific fly issue.
Please clean both indoor and outdoor areas before our technician arrives. This allows us to identify the source of the fly infestation more effectively. Our team will inspect the property thoroughly to assess the extent of the problem and check for any potential plumbing issues that may contribute to the infestation.
For drain flies, we use specialized products to target the larvae and adult flies within the drains. We will treat around food preparation areas while avoiding any direct application on those surfaces. Traps are placed in strategic locations where flies are most likely to gather.
Tierrasanta Pest Control offers a monthly service to inspect and treat fly breeding areas like drains, garbage zones, and standing water. We prevent flies from becoming a problem before they multiply.
We use eco-friendly products that target drain flies, stable flies, and blow flies. With consistent monthly treatments, you’ll enjoy a fly-free property year-round.
We’re proud to serve Tierrasanta and its surrounding areas. Our team works diligently to ensure your homes and businesses remain pest-free. We care about these communities and always aim to deliver outstanding service and reliable results.
